Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
who comforts us in all our affliction
so that we will be able
to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves
are comforted by God.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Jesus is our High Priest. He understands and sympathizes with our weaknesses. We can approach His throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. When we go through times of trouble, God comforts and encourages us. If we are truly followers of Christ Jesus, we are His hands and His feet. When there are others around us going through difficult times we are called to comfort and encourage them. Our Heavenly Father does not ask us His children to do something for others that He has not done for them.
Just today God presented me with an unexpected opportunity to "comfort" someone who is dealing with a painful situation very similar to something I have walked through. This ministry experience was a perfect example of the verse from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 because I was able to identify with this individual's pain, point them to Jesus who truly does comfort us in all our afflictions, and testify that He is able and He will!
