Walk In His Footsteps

Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.

Psalm 86:11

Clumps of dirt match the soles of his boots, leaving a trace, evidence where he walked on the clean wood floor. Barefoot, I step in the grainy piles, hesitant to complain.

Recognizing what he has done, son retrieves broom, sweeps away the earth, the dust of the ground.

What kind of footprints am I leaving behind? Do my footprints leave a mark? Do they match my soul? Unclean. Soiled. Grimy. Would anyone want to follow the path I lay out?

This is the kind of life you've been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step. He never did one thing wrong, Not once said anything amiss. They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right. He used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way. His wounds became your healing. You were lost sheep with no idea who you were or where you were going. Now you're named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your souls.
I Peter 2:21 (The Message)

I John 2:6 says, Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Footprints of Jesus,
That make the pathway glow;
We will follow the steps of Jesus
Where'er they go.
